Frequently Asked Questions
- What time are the sessions?
Half day appointments are from 8:30am to 12pm and 1pm to 4:30pm. Full Day slots are from 8:30am to 4:30pm with one hour break for lunch.
- How do I know how long my project will take?
Just give us a call! We’ll do a free evaluation of your needs and let you know which session you’ll need to schedule. Some projects may require more than one session.
- Is it guaranteed that my project will be complete within the scheduled appointment?
We’re pretty good at what we do and knowing approximately how long it will take. We can’t guarantee that you and your lab partner will finish up within your allotted time...but we’ve got a backup plan.
- What’s your backup plan? (What happens if my project isn't completed within the allotted time period?
Okay, we have three backup plans. We'll help you figure out which one is best for you.
One: You can take your project files with you, as-is, to finish up at home / with your graphic designer friend / with your printer.
Two: You can schedule another half-day or full-day session with your lab partner. We’ll also work with you and your lab partner to figure out where we got off track. In some cases, development takes longer than anticipated.
Three: If you’re just so close to finishing up, you can keep working with your lab partner at $95/hour.
- Do I get to leave with my files at the end of the appointment?
That’s the plan. Some types of projects may require a little bit of additional time to make sure your final files are set up perfectly for the printer to reproduce. So, in some cases arrangements might need to be made to pick up at a later time. Depending upon the scope of what needs to be done, additional rates may apply.
- How long do we archive files for TDL clients?
We’ll try to hold onto your files as long as possible but when we run out of room, the oldest files are the first to go! However, we do have a $10 archival service which guarantees that your project will be safe and sound in our archives for one year.
- Do I need to be present to have the 1/2 day or full day rates?
Yes. This is a team effort and you being here will help your lab partner get your project done more quickly. You can sit with your lab partner or just hang out in the lab. We’ve got free wireless internet, coffee and snacks.
- How many people can I bring with me to my session? My mom/manager/business partner/drummer/rest of my band wants to have some input.
We know that people other than you have a vested interest in how your project turns out. The sessions, however, are designed to be a one-on-one, collaborative experience and we only have space for one person into the lab with the lab technician. Your mom/manager/business partner/drummer/rest of my band can come, but they have to stay out in the lab’s lounge area. You can go chat with them and bring feedback back to your lab partner, although we've heard some questionable things about your drummer. Haha.
- Can I supply my own Illustrations or Photography?
Please do! While we do have some stock photography and illustrations in our lab, it wouldn’t be YOUR project without YOUR artwork.
- Will I have ownership of artwork created during my session?
Short answer is “Yes...maybe.” You will own anything created by your lab partner. If any stock photography or illustrations were purchased through an outside company like istockphoto.com, or a professional illustrator or photographer, you will have to adhere to the licensing restrictions set forth by that company.
- Do I have the rights to reproduce?
The short answer is “Yes...maybe.” You’ll be able to make as many copies of your project as you want, and plaster it all over the internet IF your lab partner created every piece of art contained within your project. So if you purchased any stock photography or illustrations through an outside company like istockphoto.com, or a professional illustrator or photographer, you will have to adhere to the licensing restrictions set forth by that company.
- I really liked my lab partner last time. Can I request to work with him/her again?
Absolutely! As long as they’re still hanging around the lab, we’ll make sure you two get partnered up again.
- What if my lab partner and I don't 'click'?
We try our best to match you up with the designer whom we think will be the best fit for you and your project. But if it's not working out and there's another designer available to jump in and take over the project, we'll make that happen. If there isn't another designer available, we can reschedule your session with another designer as soon as possible.
- What happens if I don't like the design developed during my session?
We hate to think about it. But hey, it could happen. Since this is a collaborative process and you're in the lab to help guide your project, you should be happy with the final product. As long as you're open and honest with your lab partner about what you want, what you like and don't like, you'll think that your final product is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
- What forms of payment are accepted?
We happily accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express credit cards. And cold, hard cash (US dollar), of course.
